Mauricio Pochettino has described Chelsea as “the greatest team in England” as the former Tottenham manager begins his new job.
The Argentine, who excelled in north London but failed to win any hardware over more than five seasons with the team, has made his Premier League debut after being fired from Spurs more than three and a half years ago.
At Chelsea, where Pochettino is expected to rapidly improve upon the club’s miserable 12th-place finish from the previous season under the direction of four different managers, there won’t be the same kind of tolerance.
Pochettino seeks titles “in the next few years” and wants to revive Chelsea’s “culture of winning” in order to do so.

“We were extremely thrilled to join them in this endeavor,” he continued. “The owners and sporting directors were very clear about it from the outset. We are here to try and support the team and the supporters. In the end, their happiness and sense of pride in ourselves and our strategy for games is what matters most in football. The players must be aware of that.
“Sure, football history is full of ups and downs, but Chelsea is a club that has never experienced these ups and downs. Because of the club’s long history, we must make sure that we provide what it needs to be at the top because the history of the club is to be at the top.”
