Former After being cleared of rape charges, Benjamin Mendy, a player for Manchester City, has joined FC Lorient and is back playing football.
The 29-year-old has passed a physical and signed a two-year contract with the French club after spending nearly two years away from the game.
After confirming his arrival on Wednesday, Lorient, who finished 10th in Ligue 1 last season, gave Mendy the No. 5 jersey.
While playing for City, the Frenchman won the World Cup in 2018 and three Premier League championships before the treble winners suspended him due to the allegations made against him.
Mendy was released by City this summer after his contract expired.
A retrial was ordered on two additional counts of rape and one of attempted rape after the jury was unable to reach a judgment on six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault against Mendy in January.
