Highlife legend AB Crentsil dies at age 79

AB Crentsil the well-known Ghanaian musician passed away at age 79. On July 13, 2022, sound engineer Fred Kyei Mensah, also known by his stage name Fredyma, posted on Facebook to confirm the passing of the renowned singer.

He stated that AB Crestsil had been ill for a while, saying, “Farewell A. B. Crenstil. The original composer and singer of the famous and controversial songs, ‘Moses and Aba AB Crenstil, has died!


“He had a stint with a lot of bands before joining the Sweet Talks Band with Smart Nkansah and then his own band, Ahenfo. His hit songs, ‘Juliana and Obi ba wiase. cannot be forgotten,” he said.

In 1943, A. B. Crentsil was born. He was one of the “big three” vocalists from Ghana at the time. Numerous Ghanaian music accolades went to Crentsil, including the Fontomfrom Evergreen Award, which is given to artists with 15 to 20 years of nonstop performance.

When his father passed away in 1984, he stopped going by AB Junior and started going by AB Crentsil.
