Horrifying scenes after Bogoso explosion, many feared dead

A massive explosion at Bogoso-Apeatse in the Western Region is believed to have killed dozens of people.

In a statement, police confirmed this information, “A massive explosion occurred this afternoon, Thursday, January 20, 2022, between Bogoso and Bawdie in the Western Region at Apeatse.”

According to the preliminary police investigation, a mining explosive vehicle travelling from Tarkwa to Chirano mines collided with a motorcycle, resulting in the explosion.

The majority of the victims have been rescued and are being treated at various hospitals and clinics throughout the Bogoso Municipality.

“The Police have taken charge of the situation, providing security to allow emergency workers such as the Ghana National Fire Service, NADMO, and the Ambulance Service to manage the situation,” the police said.
