AS Roma, a Serie A powerhouse, wants to strengthen their midfield this summer. Gianluca DiMarzio claims that they have their eyes on Scott McTominay, a midfielder for Manchester United.
Davide Frattesi is expected to sign with Inter Milan before the Giallorossi, thus they have met a brick wall in their pursuit of the midfielder.
They won’t lick their wounds for too long, though. They are looking into other possibilities.
One such choice is Marcel Sabitzer, who was seen by Roma while on loan at Manchester United last season.
Since the Premier League team did not make the deal permanent, the footballer has returned to Bayern Munich.
Another well-known name on Roma’s shortlist for transfers is McTominay. The manager of Roma, Jose Mourinho, has a past relationship with the Scottish international.
McTominay benefited from Mourinho’s leadership at Old Trafford as he developed. He made it into the starting lineup and started playing frequently.
It is no secret that Mourinho admires the midfielder, and his connections may be crucial in helping to beat out other suitors for McTominay’s services.
The 26-year-old, who is Eddie Howe’s objective, has drawn interest from Newcastle United.
Renato Sanches is another intriguing figure that Roma is keeping an eye on in addition to McTominay.
The Portuguese midfielder left the French club after a poor stint and is now playing for Paris Saint-Germain. It has sparked talk of a possible exit this summer.
The Roma administration has taken notice of Sanches’ technical brilliance and versatility, making him a possible alternative for their midfield reinforcement.
They will be cautious, though, given his history of injuries. He is plagued by nagging injuries that undermine his consistency on a constant basis.
For the upcoming season, Roma will be hoping to add one of Sabitzer, McTominay, or Sanches.
This summer, the club replied to Mourinho’s complaints regarding the absence of transfer activity since his arrival.
Houssem Aouar and Evan Ndicka have since been added, both on free transfers.
Additionally, they are almost ready to agree to another loan agreement with an obligation to buy for Diego Llorente from Leeds United.
Which of McTominay, Sanches, or Sabitzer will join them next? Time will only tell.
