A suspected serial killer has been apprehended following a horrifying discovery in his Kigali residence. Rwandan police and media disclosed that more than ten corpses were uncovered in a pit concealed within his kitchen.
The 34-year-old suspect allegedly enticed both men and women, primarily from bars, to his rented residence on the outskirts of the Rwandan capital. According to Thierry Murangira, a spokesperson for the Rwandan Bureau of Investigation (RIB), the suspect’s modus operandi involved luring victims, often prostitutes, to his home, stealing their personal belongings, and then strangling them. Subsequently, he buried their remains in the concealed kitchen pit.
Although Rwandan media initially reported over ten bodies found, an anonymous source within RIB suggested the count was 14 victims. However, the RIB spokesperson declined to confirm this figure, citing the need for forensic investigations to determine the final tally.
The suspect had previously faced arrest in July on charges of rape and robbery but was released on bail due to insufficient evidence. The investigation continued, leading to the shocking discovery when authorities searched his home.
According to the anonymous RIB source, the suspect admitted to acquiring knowledge of killing techniques by studying videos about notorious serial killers. Additionally, he disclosed that he had dissolved some victims in acid. He selectively targeted victims who were less likely to have close family or friends concerned about their disappearance.
