Although Edwin van der Sar is still receiving critical care, his wife has stated that he is communicating and “not in life-threatening danger.”
The former goalkeeper for Manchester United and the Netherlands was hospitalised in Croatia last Friday due to bleeding within his head.
In a statement released through Dutch team Ajax, Annemarie van der Sar said: “Edwin is still in the intensive care unit, but is stable. He is not in imminent risk of death.
“Every time we get to see him, he talks to us. We must be patient while awaiting the outcome of his issue.
Van der Sar, 52, apparently experienced a brain haemorrhage while on vacation in Croatia.
