In a show of solidarity and respect, former President John Dramani Mahama, accompanied by a delegation from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), visited former President John Agyekum Kufuor and his family to offer their condolences following the recent passing of former First Lady Theresa Kufuor.
The visit, which took place on Wednesday, October 4, was a poignant moment as Mr. Mahama and his wife, former First Lady Lordina, expressed their sympathies to the grieving Kufuor family. During her tenure as First Lady, Theresa Kufuor was affectionately known as the “Mother of the Nation” due to her dignified and graceful personality.
The NDC delegation, led by former President Mahama, included prominent party figures such as the National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the Chair of the NDC Council of Elders, Alhaji Mahama Iddrisu, members of the NDC Council of Elders, and representatives from the party’s Political Committee.
As a gesture of respect and compassion, Mr. Mahama signed the Book of Condolence on behalf of the NDC. His message read: “We are all saddened by the passing of our respected mother, former First Lady Madam Theresa Kufuor. She carried herself with dignity and was truly acknowledged by the people of Ghana as the mother of the Nation. On this sad occasion, our hearts go out to the widower, President Agyekum Kufuor, and the entire family. May God grant her peaceful repose.”
Funeral arrangements for the late Theresa Kufuor are currently being organized and will be announced in due course, as confirmed by the family.
Meanwhile, as a mark of respect for the departed former First Lady, flags across the nation continue to fly at half-mast. This directive was issued by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and came into effect on Monday, October 2. It is scheduled to remain in place until Sunday, October 8, as a symbol of national mourning and tribute to the memory of Theresa Kufuor.
