Manchester United fail again in their attempts to sign Frenkie de Jong

Mason Mount from Chelsea is the only player Manchester United has signed so far during the summer transfer window.

The former Blue made his unofficial Red Devils debut in their 2-0 victory against Leeds United in their first preseason friendly while donning the historic No. 7 shirt.
Ten Hag recognised the significance of bringing in a midfielder after witnessing his present alternatives struggle with long-term injuries and subpar performance the previous season.

The Frenkie Saga explained:

The Reds spent a lot of money on Casemiro last season, and he turned out to be a brilliant acquisition, but Frenkie de Jong of Barcelona was their main goal throughout the whole previous summer transfer window.

After United and the Catalan club had agreed to an initial £56.2 million deal, fans all around the world were convinced of the Dutchman’s arrival.

Ten Hag wanted a transaction to happen, but it never happened because of postponed salaries and the player’s desire to stay at Camp Nou.

And it appears that the former Ajax player is still thinking about his protégé since Mundo Deportivo reported that the Dutch manager had told United to make another bid for him this summer.

Last summer, Barca was determined to reduce the salary bill; this summer, they are not considering doing so and have rejected the Reds’ overtures.

Despite knowing that it is impossible, Ten Hag is still fixated on Frenkie de Jong, whom he hoped to recruit for Manchester United in the summer of 2022.
