The Member of Parliament for Yapei-Kusawgu, John Abdulai Jinapor, has made a heartfelt appeal to the government and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to provide immediate relief to the victims of the recent devastating floods that have wreaked havoc in the Buipe township of the Central Gonja District.
The floods, triggered by a severe rainstorm that struck the region last week, have left hundreds of residents displaced and in desperate need of assistance. The deluge has been described as one of the worst floods in recent memory, submerging entire roads, houses, farmlands, and causing extensive damage to the local infrastructure, including the tearing off of roofs.
The estimated cost of the damages runs into millions of Ghana Cedis, exacerbating the area’s existing infrastructural deficit.
A Plea for Swift Relief
Mr. Jinapor, deeply moved by the plight of his constituents, stressed the urgency of delivering immediate relief to alleviate the immense human suffering caused by the disaster. The situation, he emphasized, has become increasingly unbearable for those affected.
In his appeal, the MP called upon the government, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), international aid agencies, and philanthropists to come together urgently and provide support to the flood victims. The primary needs at this critical juncture are shelter, food, and access to clean drinking water for those displaced by the catastrophe.
