Following the news of the passing of veteran actress Cynthia Okereke, the Nigerian film industry has suffered another tragic loss.
On Tuesday, July 11, 2023, Cynthia Okereke, 63, who had been held captive by unidentified assailants for a year, passed away, leaving the entertainment business and her followers in shock.
On Wednesday, the actor and director Joseph Okechukwu shared the tragic news on Instagram.
In a touching tribute to Cynthia Okereke on Instagram, Joseph Okechukwu expressed his shock and grief at her untimely passing.
He posted a picture of the deceased actress and lamented the fact that he was about to finalise travel plans for her to assist him in finishing a joint project.
The news of her death, according to the thespian, has been one of the most challenging obstacles he has encountered recently.
“REST IN PEACE, Nwanyi oma,” he wrote. I’m beyond words broken.
“The fact that I was about to pay for your flight ticket to come and finish what we started only to hear you went to be with Lord just last night is one of the toughest things I’ve had to deal with in recent times.”
Mr. Okechukwu described Cynthia Okereke as an exceptional person whom he had known for more than two decades
“I pray I’m able to recover from the shock. Life is really just a mist. One minute you have it, the next you don’t. For the more than 20 years that I’ve known you, you’ve been such an amazing, decent and lovely soul to be around. Words fail me. May your gentle soul rest on till we meet again in glory,” he added.
Nollywood actress Cynthia Okereke and her coworker Clemson Cornell, also known as Agbogidi, went through a terrifying kidnapping incident while working in Enugu State, Nigeria, almost a year ago.
Okereke bravely shared her traumatic experience and the difficulties she encountered during her week-long captivity, including the lack of food and water, after they were freed.
“My BP is high, but to God be the glory for all of you,” she admitted. You worked hard, and you prayed, and Cynthia is still here. I’ll speak for you and keep doing my job for you. They believed that I was leaving, but I am still here. I was there for about a week without food or water.But today, I say God to you be all the glory forever and ever,”
The Nigerian film industry has suffered a great loss with the passing of Cynthia Okereke.
She became well-known in the Nollywood industry thanks to roles in films like Prof. John Bull, Osuofia in London, A Fool at 40, and many others.
She demonstrated her versatility as an actress throughout her career, winning the respect of both coworkers and fans. Her contributions to the field will be honoured and remembered for a long time.
