Maya Blu, a gifted singer from Ghana, revealed that she was twice expelled from the MTN Hitmaker competition before signing a record deal with Richie’s Lynxx Entertainment.
In a recent interview with Nana Ama McBrown on Onua Showtime with McBrown, Maya Blu discussed her journey.
The ‘Shoo’ singer claimed that although she initially dabbled in acting, she had always been passionate about music. She did, however, develop a stronger love for music over time.
“When I completed school, I was working all over but I’ve always been passionate about music, initially I was acting and I fell in love with music more,” she said.
She made the decision to enter the MTN Hitmaker competition after graduating from college in an effort to show Ghana and the rest of the world what she was capable of. She unfortunately lost early in the round of the MTN Hitmaker competition after reaching the top 12.
“So I joined MTN Hitmaker and made it to the top 12, but I was evicted early, it hurt me so much,” she recalled.
Undeterred by the setback, she decided to give it another try the following year.
“But I went again the next year and I was kicked out of the semi-finals. I was so devastated cos I had quit my job to come to MTN hitmaker and I was wondering what to do next,” she said
Despite the disappointment, Maya Blu’s talent did not go unnoticed as Richie Mensah, the CEO of Lynx Entertainment, approached her after her elimination and whispered to her that she should visit his office the next day. Intrigued and hopeful, Maya Blu went to see Richie as advised.
“Richie came to me after I was evicted and whispered that I should come and see him in his office the next day. So I went to see him and we went over the agreement and I got signed onto Lynxx Entertainment,” she pointed out.
This significant turning point in her career has added her to a list of renowned Ghanaian musicians, including Kuami Eugene, KiDi, and Adina and continues to shine day in and day out.
