Wesley Fofana, a defender for Chelsea, had surgery on his anterior cruciate ligament, which will keep him out of action for several months.
Due to “specialist medical assessments,” the 22-year-old skipped the Blues team’s preseason trip of the United States.
The testing on Fofana’s knee, according to the London club, “unfortunately confirmed that an operation would be required.”
For £70 million, Chelsea acquired the France center-back from Leicester last summer.
Chelsea released a statement that said, “Wesley will now start his recuperation and work with the club’s medical staff at Cobham during his rehabilitation period.
Fofana, who injured his leg while playing for Leicester in August 2021, is suffering from yet another major setback.
After that, he missed more than four months of the previous campaign due to a knee injury sustained while playing against AC Milan in the Champions League.
