The Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam Nartey George, representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has launched a scathing attack on former Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, following Kyerematen’s resignation from the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
George asserted that Mr. Kyerematen shares responsibility with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for what he termed the “colossal” failure of the current government in managing the economy.
“Alan Kyerematen sat in this failing government for seven years,” Sam George said during an engagement with constituents of Odododiodoo ahead of the #OccupyBoGProtest scheduled for Tuesday.
George continued, “He is not different from them. Alan Kyerematen oversaw the failure of the Komenda Sugar Factory. He is no different from Bawumia. The value is the same.”
He went on to compare the two politicians, drawing an analogy: “So, whether he is a mammoth butterfly or whatever it is…you should ask yourself, the elephant is a destructive animal, the butterfly, very colourful butterflies, if you talk to entomologists, they will tell you, they are very poisonous. The colour they have is deterrent to predators.”
Sam George’s comments come in response to Alan Kyerematen’s announcement of his intention to contest the 2024 elections as an independent candidate after resigning from the NPP. Kyerematen also unveiled a new movement called the “Movement for Change,” with the monarch butterfly as its symbol and the motto “Ghana Will Rise Again.”
During a press conference, Kyerematen emphasized that the youth of Ghana would play a central role in his movement’s leadership and activities.
Despite the symbolism and rhetoric surrounding Kyerematen’s move, Sam George remained critical, emphasizing that, in his view, both Kyerematen and Bawumia bear responsibility for the economic challenges facing Ghana.
