According to L’Équipe, Bayer Leverkusen has received an initial offer from Premier League team Aston Villa for French international winger Moussa Diaby.

The Bundesliga club has told the 24-year-old that he will be permitted to depart this summer in the event that a suitable offer is made to hire his services. The player is under contract with Xabi Alonso’s team till June 2025.

Diaby understands that getting regular playing time during the 2023–24 season will be crucial to his hopes of joining the France team for EURO 2024, therefore he must choose any new summertime destination extremely carefully.

2019 saw Diaby go from PSG to Leverkusen. Leverkusen had not yet received any substantial proposals this summer. That is, until Aston Villa filed an opening offer at the beginning of this week. The sum of this offer has not yet been disclosed, but Leverkusen considers it to be a good starting point for future discussions.

Is moving to Aston Villa appealing to Diaby? He is considering it. He is aware of the club’s continued success, but as he considers a prospective departure, the absence of Champions League football is a drawback.

Newcastle United, who had previously expressed interest in the youngster, doesn’t seem to be giving Diaby any attention this summer.

The player’s entourage is aware of Napoli’s interest in him, but no formal offer has been made. Napoli, the current Serie A champions, lack the financial resources to match the compensation package that Aston Villa can provide.

Despite Diaby having some experience in Italy thanks to his loan stint with Crotone in 2018, the Premier League has always been his top ambition.
