BORJA IGLESIAS SAYS HE WILL NOT PLAY FOR SPAIN ‘UNTIL THINGS CHANGE’

Real Betis’ forward, Borja Iglesias, has declared his decision to abstain from participating in the Spanish national team due to his dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs and the lack of consequences for certain actions.

This comes after Luis Rubiales, the President of the Spanish FA, declined to step down from his role despite considerable controversy surrounding his conduct and behavior during the Women’s World Cup final. It had been widely anticipated that Rubiales would resign following a tumultuous week, but he instead responded defiantly to his numerous critics.

Expressing his disappointment with Rubiales’ recent press conference remarks, Iglesias, who earned his first two caps in 2022, conveyed through X his sentiment that the events at the Ciudad del Fútbol de Las Rozas did not resonate with him as a footballer or an individual.

He expressed regret that the focus continued to be on a fellow player. While Iglesias cherished the experience of wearing the Spanish National Team jersey as a highlight of his career, he stated his current unavailability for selection, citing the need for change before he would reconsider his stance.
