ENGLAND ACE ALESSIA RUSSO JOINS ARSENAL FOR FREE AFTER RECORD BID

Alessia Russo has been signed by Arsenal for free, just months after the club made a record-breaking offer for the striker.

A £500k offer was made to Russo in January, which would have made her the most expensive player in women’s sports history. However, Manchester United turned down that offer, and they now stand to lose the 24-year-old for nothing.

The striker netted 10 goals in 2022/23 as the team finished second in the league, totaling 22 WSL goals in 46 appearances for United, the team she grew up supporting.

In 21 England appearances, Russo has also scored 11 goals, the most renowned of which was a spectacular backheel against Sweden in the European Championship semifinal last summer.

But once the two teams enter the Champions League qualifying rounds and her old team participates in the league for the first time, she will now represent Arsenal rather than United.
