On the morning of Tuesday, October 3, a heart-wrenching incident unfolded on the Agona Nkwanta-Takoradi Highway in the Western Region of Ghana. A junior high school teacher met an untimely demise as he was riding his motorbike, marking the first day of school reopening.
Emmanuel Ntonah, a 30-year-old JHS teacher at Santiaw near Agona Nkwanta in the Ahanta West District, tragically lost his life in a horrifying accident. He had recently returned to his ancestral village, Komfoeku, in the Shama District, where he and his wife were spending their vacation together. With the dawn of a new school term, he set out on his motorbike to report to school, a decision that would lead to the fateful accident.
Reports indicate that as he was en route to school, tragedy struck when a speeding Sprinter bus approached from the opposite direction and collided with his motorbike. The impact of the collision proved fatal, claiming Emmanuel Ntonah’s life on the spot.
The grieving wife, Eunice Ntonah, recounted the tragic incident in a sorrowful tone during an interview with Connect FM’s Omanbapa morning show host, Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson. She expressed her shock and disbelief, stating that they had both been in the same community during the holiday season. Emmanuel had planned to go to school and return to pick her up to join him. However, her world was shattered when news of her husband’s sudden demise reached her.
As the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident continues, Emmanuel Ntonah’s mortal remains have been placed at a private morgue at Apimanim. The devastated wife, struggling to come to terms with the loss, expressed her anguish, emphasizing that their marriage was approaching its one-year anniversary in December. She tearfully concluded, “He has left me behind just like that.”
