In a shocking development, Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Naira Marley has been taken into police custody for questioning regarding the untimely demise of fellow singer MohBad. The mysterious death of MohBad had sent shockwaves throughout the music industry and led to a profound outpouring of grief from his fans, who passionately called for a comprehensive investigation.

MohBad, a rising star in the Nigerian music scene, had experienced a bitter feud with Naira Marley following his departure from Marlian Records, the music label owned by Naira Marley. The strained relationship between the two artists attracted public attention, particularly in light of MohBad’s tragic passing.

Despite earlier denials of involvement in MohBad’s death, Naira Marley, who had been overseas, made a commitment to return and cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation. He expressed his intentions, stating, “It’s important I do my part for Imole,” referring to one of MohBad’s aliases. “I’ll be meeting with the police with hopes for the truth to be uncovered and for justice to prevail,” he added during an interview on X.

MohBad, whose real name was Ilerioluwa Aloba, passed away at a Lagos hospital last month under circumstances that remain unclear. His sudden death prompted his family to conduct a swift burial, adhering to the customs of the Yoruba ethnic group, which dictate a prompt burial for deceased individuals with living parents.

In response to the growing concerns surrounding MohBad’s death, the police ordered the exhumation of his body for a thorough autopsy, the results of which are still pending. A coroner’s inquest is scheduled to resume on October 13 to shed more light on the situation.

Last week, music promoter Sam Larry was taken into police custody to assist with the investigation. However, no additional information about his involvement has been disclosed at this time.

The feud between Marley and MohBad escalated last year after MohBad’s decision to leave Marlian Records, where he had been signed for three years. Following MohBad’s passing, several videos emerged in which he alleged that he had been mistreated and denied his royalties by individuals associated with the label.

Naira Marley vehemently refuted these claims, labeling them as “lies” and affirming that he played no role, either directly or indirectly, in MohBad’s untimely demise.

In the wake of MohBad’s passing, a memorial concert was held in Lagos’s Victoria Island, drawing a large crowd of mourners who danced and sang to honor the late artist’s memory. The #justiceformohbad hashtag has trended across social media platforms, sparking protests and calls for transparency surrounding MohBad’s death.

These developments have prompted the Lagos state governor to initiate an inquiry involving the country’s secret police, further highlighting the gravity of the situation and the demand for answers. As investigations continue, the music world watches closely, hoping to uncover the truth behind the tragic loss of MohBad.
